Who We Are and What We Do

The Gunnison Valley Climbing Experience (GVCE) is a unique publicly funded climbing program that brings kids head to head with the world of technical rock climbing. Since the fall of 2005 the GVCE has been climbing with Gunnison area youth both inside and outside, expanding the classroom overtime from the recreation center to many different locations throughout Gunnison County and beyond. Continuing to offer a safe, fun, and engaging atmosphere for kids and young adults the GVCE is an ever-evolving program that gives the participants a chance to push themselves and others and see what can be experienced.

These days, it is safe to say that the GVCE breaks down into five different departments.

Rock Climbing :

When the weather allows, we will be rock climbing. Offering extensive summer classes and holding a 3-season permit the GVCE brings kids outside to many different areas around Gunnison County giving all participants a chance to get to know their home, better.

Competitive Climbing :

Directing the force, that is Gunnison's Peaceful Warriors, the GVCE is proud to boast that we are the nation's largest public climbing team. With two years of competitions under our belt the team has grown three-fold and will be sure to surprise you!!!

Indoor Classes :

Never loosing sight of where we started, the GVCE offers climbing classes year round to climbers of all levels. As entry level as fighting initial fear of climbing to training for national/international competitions we are ready for whatever the need be.

Volunteering/Fundraising Work :

As fundamental as the climbing, this is where continuing participants have the chance to give back to their community and then some. A public program always needs help to stay alive and here it is the kids who do most of the work, whether raising money for the program, helping to teach climbing to younger or less experienced climbers, or doing good for other causes this aspect of the program helps to keep the kids rooted.

Climbing/Camping Trips :

The newest and most exciting aspect of the Program gives continuing students the chance to leave their nests and learn how to tend for themselves. Headed wherever the wind is blowing us these trips are priceless and yet extremely affordable.
